Indian Artists
July 11th 2009 10:11
Astoundingly, when I was going through my omg-it's-contemporary-art thing with the New York Times' T Style magazines that are piled up in the back room, I never really though of Indian artists. Pretty amazing, since I hunt for indian influences in everything else that I do. Anyway, I recently read a time magazine article about the resurgence of indian contemporary art collectors Really Long Link and the photograph accompanying the article sparked my interest. I looked up a few of the names mentioned in the article
"acknowledged modern masters"
M.F. Husain

fficial&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi ; Really Long Link
and Amrita Sher-Gil

more : Really Long Link
all very obviously indian, all very diverse as is the country itself
and thus opened up a world of art that I had imagined in my mind but somehow didn't think existed. I want to live in India to experience the true blend of everything that is that country.
reading The Moor's Last Sigh [by Salman Rushdie] has intrigued me even more, there is so much intricate culture (real and fictional...) swirling in an evolving mass around the air above india.
